Terms and Conditions for Enrolment

 

Please read all the Terms and Conditions carefully; your agreement to these Terms and Conditions is on submitting the completed Enquiry Form and by signing the Offer of Acceptance for enrolment into the New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry Programme.

 

Concerning your Enrolment in the New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry Programme:

 

Fees

This is a fee-paying programme. Fees are invoiced and payable annually, Invoiced on sign-up anniversary date, and we have various payment options.

You may be eligible under Fees Free funding; we will check this on your behalf. You will need a tablet or laptop, access to an Internet connection and a device to take digital photographs to complete your theory work and provide evidence of practical tasks you have undertaken (this could be the tablet).

Refund and Cancellation Policy

The following withdrawal and refund policy applies to your course fees paid as per the Education Act 1989:

  1. Students enrolled for a course of study may withdraw from that course from enrolment, and up to seven days after the first day of the system, the student is entitled to a refund of all payments made, less $500 or 10% of any amount paid, whichever is the lesser amount.

  2. Notices of withdrawal from a course must be made in writing.

  3. No refunds will be considered seven days after the first day of course commencement.

Information Collection and Usage

Builders Academy New Zealand collects and stores information from this form submission to manage the business of Builders Academy New Zealand; comply with the requirements of the Education Act 1989 and other legislation relating to the maintenance of records; supply information to government agencies and other organisations as set out below.

In submitting your enrolment, you authorise such disclosure on the understanding that Builders Academy New Zealand will observe the conditions governing the release of information, as set out in the Privacy Act 2020, the Education Act 2020, and other relevant legislation. You may see any information held about you and amend any errors. To do so, contact Builders Academy New Zealand.

Supply of information to government agencies and other organisations: Builders Academy New Zealand supplies data collected on this form submission to government agencies, including the Ministry of Education, Education NZ, NZ Qualifications Authority, the Tertiary Education Commission, the Ministry of Social Development, Inland Revenue, Immigration NZ and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and other agencies where selected students are recipients of an award or payment of fees. Those agencies use the data collected from tertiary education organisations to administer the tertiary education system, including allocating funding, developing policy advice for the government, conducting statistical analysis and research measure performance, and reporting on our progress to funders. They may also supply it to Statistics NZ. These government agencies are required to comply with the provisions of the Privacy Act 2020.

Your details, as entered in your submission, will be included in the National Student Index. They may be used in an authorised information matching programme with the NZ Birth Register.

When required by law, Builders Academy New Zealand releases information to government agencies such as the NZ Police, the Department of Justice, the Ministry of Social Development, and the ACC. Information collected may be supplied to other educational organisations to verify academic records. Information on progress or achievement reports may also be provided to other organisations upon request (for example, Youth Transition Services), whereby they have referred you to Builders Academy New Zealand or supported you while studying at Builders Academy New Zealand and require this information to report to government agencies as part of their funding obligations.

In signing the enrolment form, you undertake to pay all fees when due and meet any late fees and collection charges associated with debt recovery and undertake to comply with the published rules and policies of Builders Academy about attendance, academic integrity and progress, contact and use of information systems.

Qualification

The registered PTE you are enrolling with is Builders Academy New Zealand, Provider Code 9436, and they will be awarding the qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Builders Academy New Zealand has a policy for recognising prior learning. A form can be requested for this and will be processed within one week for no additional cost.

Credit Transfer

Builders Academy New Zealand has a policy of recognising the transfer of credits from other New Zealand training establishments to us. Other options are available for students who have already completed some of the modules included in the course.

Complaints Procedures

If you have a complaint, it should be taken in the first instance to your Workplace Educator for discussion. It will be discussed with you, along with the options available, and if necessary, concerned with any other parties involved and the Regional Manager to solve it. If the complaint cannot be resolved satisfactorily, it can be taken to the General Manager.

Literacy/Numeracy Assessment Tool

It may be necessary to establish that you have the required literacy and numeracy skills to complete the programme assessed against the Learning Progressions through the Literacy and Numeracy Adult Assessment Tool (LNAAT) or some other assessment tool designed for the same purpose. This will establish what extra assistance may need to be put in place to get you to the required level. This may also need to be re-assessed throughout your apprenticeship to measure whether enough gains have been made to help you achieve your qualification.

Course Content

Builders Academy New Zealand reserves the right to alter a course if necessary. It is not liable to any student if contracted services cannot be provided for any reason, such as withdrawal of agreement from any company, including and not limited to those shown in the prospectus, the website, any marketing material, political unrest in a country, strikes, price increases from suppliers etc. There is no refund for any part of the course not provided or undertaken for whatever reason.

Documentation

To qualify as a domestic student and so be entitled to the Government tuition subsidy, you must be a citizen of New Zealand (including students from the Cook Islands, Tokelau, or Niue who have New Zealand citizenship) or a permanent resident of New Zealand or a citizen or permanent resident of Australia residing in New Zealand. You must provide evidence of citizenship or permanent residency, and to do so, you must produce one of the following:

  • Birth certificate with place of birth stated as New Zealand, Cook Islands, Tokelau, or Niue.

  • New Zealand passport

  • A statement of Whakapapa, including date of birth, countersigned by a kaumatua.

  • Certificate of citizenship or letter of confirmation

  • Proof of New Zealand Residency

  • Australian learners living in NZ must supply one of the following documents: birth certificate, Australian passport, or a current Returning Resident's Visa if you are an Australian Permanent Resident.

  • Non-residents

You can bring the original documentation to the enrolment meeting. Alternatively, please provide a certified copy. This means a photocopy of your original document, signed as being a trustworthy and accurate copy by a Justice of the Peace (JP), Barrister or Solicitor, Notary Public, Court Register or Deputy Registrar, Member of Parliament, Land Transport New Zealand, Public trust, or local authority employee designated for this purpose. When a learner is in a remote community and unable to access a person listed in the Oaths and Declarations Act, a member of the New Zealand Police, school principal, minister of religion, or general practitioner is acceptable.

Please note that your name, date of birth and residency entered on this enrolment will be included in the National Student Index and used in an Authorized Information Matching programme with the New Zealand Birth Register.

Concerning the New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry Training Agreement:

The Employer agrees to:

  • Ensure the apprentice has an Employment Agreement or Contract of Labour that will be in force for no shorter duration than the length of this Training Agreement.

  • Ensure that no other relevant Government funding or subsidies are received concerning this programme that could be seen as "double dipping."

  • Facilitate and actively encourage the apprentice's participation in all training and assessment activities required. This includes releasing the apprentice for agreed off-site training activities as identified in the Site Visit Report.

  • During practical training, ensure the apprentice is taught by a carpenter who can deliver training in the accepted practices that meet building regulations and Codes of Practice requirements.

  • Provide or link the apprentice to the learning support necessary to help the apprentice complete the programme.

  • Provide staff who can act in the capacity of workplace verifiers.

  • Review progress regularly with the Builders Academy Workplace Educator and the apprentice.

  • Provide health and safety induction training and site-specific safety briefings for the Builders Academy Workplace Educator.

  • Advise Builders Academy New Zealand if:

    • The apprentice signs with any other training organisation during the programme

    • The apprentice's employment ceases.

    • The apprentice's immigration status changes

    • The business is sold.

Builders Academy New Zealand agrees to:

  • Builders Academy intends to visit approximately every 6 to 7 weeks, subject to apprentice and employer agreement and availability, that best suits the learning environment (workplace). Appointments cancelled at short notice will be accommodated to the best of Builders Academy's ability but may lead to a disrupted visit cycle.

  • Ensure that the apprentice meets all necessary entry criteria under this Training Agreement.

  • Negotiate with the employer concerning the modes of training delivery and the responsibilities for each training element for individual apprentices and collate this in a Site Visit Report.

  • Facilitate and actively manage the apprentice's participation in all training and assessment activities required.

  • Undertake all assessment activities, liaise with the employer's nominated workplace verifiers, and collate all supplementary evidence required to support assessment decisions.

  • Advise and support the employer by providing the learning support necessary to help the apprentice complete the programme.

  • Review progress regularly in conjunction with the employer and the apprentice.

  • report assessment results

  • Assist the employer and the apprentice on matters relating to this Training Agreement and the programme.

The Apprentice agrees to:

  • Take all reasonable steps to acquire the knowledge and skills required in the Site Visit Report within the programme's timeframe.

  • Support assessment by maintaining an Apprentice Work Record detailing activity undertaken each working day and link this with any supplementary evidence, such as photos taken to prove capability.

  • Actively participate in all training and assessment activities required, including agreed off-site training activities as identified in the Site Visit Report.

  • Follow the direction of the Builders Academy Workplace Educator in all matters relating to training and assessment.

  • Be open to using learning support as deemed necessary to help programme completion.

  • Review progress regularly with the Builders Academy Workplace Educator and the employer.

  • Advise Builders Academy New Zealand if:

    • They sign with any other training organisation during the programme not arranged by Builders Academy New Zealand.

    • Their employment ceases.

    • Their immigration status changes

    • Their contact details change

Consent to Publish Name and Qualifications:

I consent to Builders Academy New Zealand publishing my name and qualifications on any of its media channels or publications, including but not limited to its website, social media pages, brochures, and newsletters. I understand that this information may be used for promotional purposes, to showcase the achievements of Builders Academy New Zealand graduates, and to provide information to potential students and employers.

Consent to Share Name and Contact Details with Graduation Event Providers:

I consent to Builders Academy New Zealand sharing my name and contact details with graduation event providers to organise and manage graduation ceremonies and events. I understand this information will only be shared with authorised personnel and used solely to plan and execute graduation events.

Consent to Share Information with Iwi for Statistical Purposes:

If I indicate in the training agreement that I identify as Māori, I consent to Builders Academy New Zealand sharing my information with iwi (Māori tribes) for statistical purposes. I understand that this information may be used to track the participation and success of Māori students in Builders Academy New Zealand programs and to inform iwi-led initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes for Māori learners.

I acknowledge and agree to the above consent clauses by submitting this form. I understand that I can withdraw my consent anytime by writing to Builders Academy New Zealand.

 

Concerning your Enrolment in the Residential Construction Supervisor Programme:

 

Payment of Deposit and Course Fees/Trust Account

The balance of fees is due prior to date of course commencement. All monies are banked into The New Zealand Public Trust Limited who administer the fees as per the legislative requirement Section 236A of the Education Act 1989. Should payment for the course not be received by the fourth week of the course, then the student will be liable for any legal or collection costs incurred.

Acceptance

All applicants will need to meet the eligibility criteria and confirmation on the course is given to students on a first come basis.

Qualification

(iv) We reserve the right to cancel training courses due to insufficient demand, unavailability of suitable training staff or facilities or similar major problems. In all cases if you are enrolled on the cancelled course you will be offered alternative training dates or a full refund.

 

Course cost includes:

  • GST (Government Goods and Services Tax)

  • NZQA fees

  • All tuition, workbooks, manuals, and resources

  • All outside visits and domestic study tours

Course cost excludes:

  • Compulsory Student Services Levy (CSSL)

  • Personal stationery

  • Lost, destroyed or stolen workbooks: $10.00 per workbook

  • Course related costs of up to $1,000 - a list is available prior to commencement such as Industry resources e.g. reading material, textbooks

  • The following are not included in visits or study tours:

    • Transportation from home to the airport/transport station

    • Any meals and drinks and items of a personal nature

    • Any optional activities over & above those included

Compulsory Student Services Levy (CSSL)

CSSL is a fee to cover and support the provision of various student services. The Fee funds key service for students to assist student success and overall well-being whilst studying at New Zealand Management Academies Ltd.

How much is it?

New Zealand Management Academies Ltd has consulted with students on the Student Services Levy. The CSSL is $400 for each course 30 weeks or longer, or $200 for courses 20 weeks or less. Only domestic students studying at Level 3 and above pay this fee unless you are a Youth Guarantee student.

Certain criteria must be reached before students can go on field trips and study tours, and carry on to completing Level 4, 5, or 6 programmes. Failure to reach these criteria will result in students unable to participate with no refund owing.

If students are absent from class a medical certificate is required in order for you to make up the class with another group. Joining another group will not be possible however, if you are absent when your study tour is on or if you had failed to meet the criteria. Access to Studylink

You authorise New Zealand Management Academies Ltd to contact Studylink as and when necessary to establish the status of my loan, and to check on the progress of the application. You understand that any information obtained will be kept confidential.

Liquidation

In the event of New Zealand Management Academies Ltd going into liquidation, New Zealand Management Academies Ltd will be holding the unused portion of the course for which the student has paid in trust. If students wish they could complete any remaining units that the company have developed, by distance learning. This may allow students to complete the course from home. New Zealand Management Academies Ltd will actively try and place students with other providers and negotiate a reduced cost for the balance of any training.

You understand that completion of this course does not guarantee you a position of employment or internship and that a criminal conviction may also prevent the offer of employment or internship with any company. You understand that some employers may require applicants to undergo and pass medical, drug testing and security checks depending on the position. You understand that relationships with industry partners are subject to change and interviews and internships with any company cannot be guaranteed.

You declare that all the information you have supplied on this form and any attached documentation to be true and complete and you acknowledge that New Zealand Management Academies Ltd may suspend my enrolment if false information has been supplied or required information not supplied by the due date. You also understand the additional costs that are required, which are excluded from the course costs and are listed on this form.

You consent to NZMA using photographs and/or video images taken of you for the purpose of marketing and media during and after my enrolment where required for business purposes such as publication, promotion, news or events.

You authorise disclosure of personal information held by New Zealand Management Academies Ltd to members of my family where necessary to promote and/or further my interests. These contacts are also able to be contacted in an emergency. The specified names and contact details are detailed on my application form.

 

Declaration

Privacy – New Zealand Management Academies Ltd collects and stores information from this form to:

  • Manage the business of the Institute (including internal reporting, administrative processes and selection of scholarship and prize winners).

  • Comply with the requirements of the Education Act 1989 and other legislation relating to maintenance of records and accountability for public funding.

  • Supply information to government agencies and other organisations as set out below.

By completing an enrolment form and agreeing to these terms and conditions you authorise such disclosure on the understanding that New Zealand Management Academies Ltd will observe the conditions governing the release of information, as set out in the Privacy Act 1993, the Education Act 1989 and other relevant legislation. Supply of Information to Government Agencies and Other Organisations – New Zealand Management Academies Ltd supplies data collected on this form to government agencies, including:

  • The Ministry of Education.

  • The New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

  • The Tertiary Education Commission.

  • The Ministry of Social Development (in relation to student loans and allowances).

  • Immigration New Zealand and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (for those who are not New Zealand citizens or permanent residents).

Those agencies use the data collected from tertiary education organisations to:

  • Administer the tertiary education system, including allocating funding.

  • Develop policy advice for government.

  • Conduct statistical analysis and research.

New Zealand Management Academies Ltd may add your personal details (name, date of birth and residency) to the National Student Index, which is managed by the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Education may supply data collected on this form to Statistics New Zealand for the purposes of integrating data with data collected by other government agencies, subject to the provisions of the Statistics Act 1975. Integrated data is used for the production of official statistics, to inform policy advice to government and for research purposes.

When required by law, New Zealand Management Academies Ltd releases information to government agencies such as the New Zealand Police, Department of Justice, Ministry of Social Development, and the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).

Information collected on this form may be supplied to other educational organisations for the purpose of verifying academic records.

Fees – By agreeing to these terms and conditions and completing an enrolment form you undertake to pay all fees as they become due, and to meet any late fees and collection charges associated with debt recovery. Rules – By agreeing to these terms and conditions and completing an enrolment form, you undertake to comply with the published rules and policies of New Zealand Management Academies Ltd with regard to attendance, academic integrity and progress, conduct and use of information systems. A copy will be given to you in the first week of the course.

Identity – If you have supplied a National Student number on this enrolment form, and your National Student Index status is verified, you are deemed to have declared that you are the legitimate owner of the claimed identity.
