Q.

How come your fees are so cheap compared to some other providers?

A:

Being a private training provider we don’t have the bureaucracy that large government institutions have.

Being a specialist allows us to focus our resources really carefully.  We aren’t subsidising other courses etc, aren’t developing resources for lots of different types of courses.  By focussing on Trades, and Carpentry in particular, our resources are put to more efficient use.

We don’t have the high overheads of some other institutions.

The e-learning programme allows us to be more efficient:

  • Less down time for tutors in marking and dealing with paper work,

  • less cost – paper and staff resources, filing, entering results etc.

  • Better use of personnel – i.e. 1:1 and small group tutor time with students rather than marking.  Admin staff not wasting time shuffling paper resources.

Being a PTE we don’t have to maintain large campuses, full libraries for every subject and HUGE marketing budgets.

Because we are a PTE we have a small efficient administration team.

Q:

I am an international student, can I study at G&H Training

A:

G&H Training only take international students at our New Plymouth Branch.  Please click here to find out more information.

Q:

What is G&H's academic year?

A:

G&H Trainings Pre-employment Carpentry course has start dates on any Monday of the training year (depending on available places) except between Christmas and New Year when we are closed.

Practical Construction Skills has start dates throughout the year depending on available places.  Check with Head Office or your local branch for the next start date in your area.

BConstructive and Be Motorvated courses start in January and Finish in December.  You may be able to start these courses after the official start date, if there are places available.

Trade Skills courses run during the secondary school year.

Industry courses run as and when negotiated.

Q:

What sort of support is there for women wanting to study a trade?

A:

There is a female support person at our head office who will help women with issues on request.  We have policies on sexual harassment that also support women.

Q:

Is there an age limit for G&H courses?

A:

There is no upper age limit on most of our courses, however the minimum age is 16.  (Some 15 year olds may enrol if they have an exemption from the Ministry of Education to allow them to leave school early).

Q:

Do I have to do work experience?

A:

No, but we encourage work experience for learners on all our full time courses who are ready, because it gives them a good idea of what it is like to work in the industry they have chosen, and it gives them good contacts with employers for jobs or apprenticeships when they finish their training.

Q:

Can I get a student loan or allowance to study at G&H?

A:

Student loans are available to all New Zealand citizens and permanent residents to help pay for course fees and course related costs.  Extra assistance may also be available through student allowances.  Phone Study Link free on 0800 88 99 00 to confirm your eligibility for financial assistance, or visit their website StudyLink.
